On Effective Pedagogy

always prepared for class and brings different perspectives together well

-Business Writing, Spring 2017

Instructor is always prepared for class. Very enthusiastic, and truly cares about the students and making sure they learn as much as possible. Very fair with grading, deadlines, etc. Great in-class discussion. Cultivated an open environment in class that was not uncomfortable or awkward to participate in. I am usually not a fan of english classes whatsoever because of the nature of my learning preferences and interests, however, I thoroughly enjoyed this class.

-Technical Communication, Fall 2016

The professor does a great job at allowing the students to write creatively about topics that interest them.

Mr. Love gives great feedback on any drafts that are given to him.

I feel that he is very helpful in his feedback and always has some availability so that students can come and ask questions.

He explains assignments clearly and makes sure we have a deep understanding of the subject before we complete the assignment.

Great at building connections between readings and writings.

-First-Year Composition, Fall 2016

I gained a lot of experience and knowledge throughout the course. I liked the idea of having a journal and handing in every week. It pushed me to write more and think about my writing process.

I felt the in class discussions really helped to present ideas in new and novel ways. Everyone has their own views and thoughts on a subject. The discussions allowed for the views to be brought to light and analyzed among the class.

He facilitates discussion well, creates an environment that is conducive to creativity.

-Business Writing, Summer 2016

The readings are very relevant for the class, and the concept of each project seems to be useful for the professional setting.

He always makes sure that people have their questions answered. I learned a lot in this class and I think that it will help me in the business world.

-Business Writing, Spring 2016

He creates these challenging assignments that have a huge success rate. I had the best time composing and [designing] different forms of rhetoric.

-First-Year Composition, Spring 2015

I really liked the minecraft project. And the other, more formal projects were ok too. I really did enjoy this class and I thought Patrick did a really good job. He made class interesting and fun. The one most important thing I learned in Eng 106 is when making drafts, to right everything down and do not delete. Just get all the thoughts out.

-First-Year Composition, Spring 2014

What I experienced in the class was not so much a class about writing but a very good course on rhetoric and other parts of making an argument to the audience. It was a modern interpretation of what writing has become today.

He is open to what the students say about the class. He talked and related topics that, at a quick glance, do not relate to writing. However the topics did clearly work with writing and the argument that they do is defended well.

He is great at explaining the material through interactive projects. not just long essays.

He challenges the students to think and analyze everything resulting in deeper knowledge of subject matter.

-First-Year Composition, Fall 2013

Something that my professor does that is very appreciable is give us writing assignments not just about the course/ subject matter but also about other day-to-day issues and opinions. He allows class discussion on some of these miscellaneous topics and this indirectly helps us improve our communication skills.

Overall great job on teaching this class. I learned a lot compared to my high school English classes. English is not my best subject but this instructor made the class fun and interesting.

On Teaching Online

One thing he does well is make himself open for consulting and any questions we may have. The online class felt like more of an in class class due to the availability he had to meet and talk with us. He made me feel like a student rather than just a number on a computer screen like most online classes do.

I really think it was helpful being able to have access to reach him and his prompt response was very beneficial to verify that I am doing the work properly. Another thing that was helpful for me was the weekly checklist provided from him, it was helpful to keep track of the assignments we needed to complete for each week.

-Technical Communication Online, Summer 2018

[I] wasn't used to the online format at first and struggled/stressed out about assignments. Really like the format at this point and think the grading is fair. I like the freedom to direct your own topics for the assigned projects we work on because it makes it more motivating to look into and research a personal interest.

-Business Writing Online, Fall 2017

The instructor had made an effective schedule for the semester. Despite the fact that class was conducted online, he was always approachable and made good use of technological apps in a convenient way that proved to be easy to use for students.

Best online class I have taken so far, the interactions through slack are nice and help contribute to making the interactions better

On Passion and Motivation

Very great instructor. Really cares about his students.

-Business Writing Online, Fall 2017

Great teacher. really enjoys what he is doing. I hate writing but that fact that he enjoys it so much and is willing to help and answer questions whenever (which i am sure became very annoying with everyone messaging him) made the class very beneficial and enjoyable.

-Technical Communication Online, Summer 2017

Patrick is a very keen and helpful instructor that clearly enjoys what he is doing, wants to be there, and wants to help students grow.

-Business Writing, Spring 2017

Patrick is always very enthusiastic in class. He always has material planned and can get most of the class participating in discussion which I think is a very difficult task to do. I really like the way that he has structured his class and it is even more impressive that this is his first time teaching this class.

I can tell he is very passionate about technical writing. It helps to keep the class less dry.

-Technical Communication, Fall 2016

The professor connects with his students well and shows his passion for teaching every day.

Genuinely a nice guy

-First-Year Composition, Fall 2016

Has a lot of passion for his profession. Challenges students to think.

-Business Writing, Summer 2016

He is very easy to approach and friendly. He seems passionate about his job

-First-Year Composition, Fall 2015

He is very enthusiastic and open to helping everyone. He makes you feel comfortable in the learning environment

-First-Year Composition, Spring 2014

You are very friendly and open which makes students more comfortable in the classroom and it makes them want to participate and learn more. I like that you can joke around and use our kind of vocabulary but still effectively teach the material.

-First-Year Composition, Fall 2013

(Something this professor does well is) Being cool.
