PROFESSIONAL
In my time as a graduate student, I’ve had the privilege of holding several professional and administrative positions.
Center for Science of Information NSF STC
The Center for Science of Information (CSoI) is a nation-wide Science and Technology Center funded by the NSF. The CSoI lead institution is Purdue University, with members from: Bryn Mawr, Howard University, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Texas A&M, UC San Diego, UC Berkeley, University of Hawaii - Manoa, University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign.
The Center’s mission is to “advance science and technology through a new quantitative understanding of the representation, communication, and processing of information in biological, physical, social, and engineered systems.” The research of the Center is organized into three thrusts: Life Science, Communication, and Knowledge Extraction.
My primary job at the Center is helping prepare the annual report to the NSF on advances in information science and ongoing projects of all the members of the Center. A partner and I survey all the filed reports form every member, normalize the prose into narratives that demonstrate the progress and advances, and compile the reports into the three Center Research thrusts so they can be published and delivered to NSF. We also summarize all the research of the Center for the Executive Summary.
I also consult on presentations, work on white papers and grants, and write blog posts for the Center newsfeed. Here are a few samples of my blog posts:
- Center Researchers Develop New Cell Identification Method, Discover New Melanoma Subtypes
- Center PhD Student Irene Fischer-Wang Part of Grant Team Studying Local Accountability Data
- CSoI Purdue Faculty Are Finalists In New Data Science Initiative
I particularly enjoy writing blog posts because I get to read new research papers and synthesize them with statements from the researchers for the public.
